Gemini edits your files in chat

This week in AI

Google says the Gemini app can now create, preview and edit files inside the chat, including documents, PDFs, slides and spreadsheets. You can open a file full screen and type your own edits, highlight a line to ask about it, or ask Gemini to refine it. PDF editing works on web and mobile, the other file types on the web, and Google says it is open to all Gemini app users.

One thing to try

Take the rough notes from your last meeting, remove names and contact details, and ask for a one-page summary as a document. Then fix one line yourself in the preview instead of asking again. Working with AI on your own documents is one of the things we practise live at the workshop.

A prompt to copy

Turn my notes below into a one-page document for my team.
Start with a three-sentence summary.
Then list the actions, each with an owner and a date. Write "not stated" where one is missing.
End with any open questions.
Do not add anything that is not in my notes.
<paste your notes>

Use it after a meeting, before you write the follow-up email.

Stay safe

Accenture research reported this week found that only 24% of South African organisations have clear policies on how staff use AI. If your team has none yet, one rule covers most of the risk: no client or staff personal information goes into a public AI tool. Ask what your company allows before you upload a work file.
